CLIFF ROBERTS

I just stumbled upon this charming book the other day entitled, The First Book of Jazz, by Langston Hughes. Written in 1955, the book has really beautiful illustrations by Cliff Roberts. His black and white line-work is separated so appropriately, and Roberts seems to utilize simple patterns to convey clothing or objects, in order to make the simplified, one-color images more dynamic and compelling.
